Fleet routing for distribution was managed manually, leading to suboptimal delivery sequences, higher fuel costs, and inconsistent delivery windows for retail partners.
Approach
Evaluating and implementing a transportation management system for automated route optimization. Running a proof-of-concept at a single distribution center before scaling.
The judgment call
The vendor wanted to deploy across all distribution centers simultaneously. I insisted on a single-site POC first. In endurance, you never race a distance you have not trained for. The same applies to enterprise systems: prove it works at one site before committing to ten.
